wedding styling : fall for a red and gold color palette for your wedding

Because wedding invitations mail 6-8 weeks before the event, we are already working on some Fall wedding invitations at Fresh Ink.  A lot of fall weddings use tones of oranges etc, but we fell in love with this fresh color pallette of red and gold inspired by this Red & Gold Calligraphy Save the Date by Smock.

Red is a beautiful element, but challenging because if you use too much of it you look like you are celebrating the Chinese new year at your wedding, which is a little much for us.  We love our weddings swathed in white, with little touches of color.  So use red in metered doses combined with gold and you will pull off this fresh combo effortlessly.  Just remember, RESTRAINT is key to pulling this off as unexpected red and and gold for fall - and not as red a la Valentine's Day.
Here are some perfect RED touches we loved.

#1.  Skip the cliche red roses.  Lush, natural flowers with just the right pops of red are so classy.

Serve guests drinks decorated with red striped straws, they are an inexpensive touch with a lot of flair.

You get the red point, but how can you interject some touches of gold or brown to inspire that fall feel?
We thought this was one of the most adorable "fall" touches we have seen!  Donut-hole edible acorns:

We think this wedding cake with red cut-out detail could be smashing for fall.   Envision cut out's of beautiful trees, fall leaves, acorns, woodland squirrels, deer, and of course your monogram inner twined!

Here are some other details we thought would be adorable with red touches.  Make cookies like the ones shown below, but because we love regional-inspired touches, we would probably make them in the shape of our home-state, Mississippi, with a little red heart in the location of the ceremony - Jackson, Oxford, etc.  These would be adorable as favors or in out of town guest baskets!

And everyone is always looking for inexpensive but personal favor ideas to send guests home with.  This recipe for red velvet crinkle cookies is the perfect solution - easy & inexpensive!  They would be adorable in little clear bags with a raffia tie (make sure the powdered sugar does not make your bags messy - very careful!)  We also love putting them in brown paper kraft boxes, or wrap them inside a frosted cup with a beautiful gold, fall leaf printed on the cup as a favor for the guest to take home and enjoy!
